CBT

CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is a practical, structured approach that helps you untangle overwhelming thoughts, understand your emotions, and respond to challenges in ways that feel more balanced and manageable.

This enables you to change the way you think and behave by breaking problems down into smaller, less overwhelming parts.

At its heart, CBT is about recognising the patterns – those loops of thinking, feeling, and reacting – that keep us stuck. Maybe it’s spiralling self-doubt, persistent anxiety, overthinking, or avoiding things you wish you could face with confidence. CBT helps you pause, understand what’s really happening beneath the surface, and learn how to respond differently.

With Emma, CBT sessions are collaborative and supportive. You’ll begin by exploring how certain thoughts or beliefs might be affecting how you feel and what you do – often without even realising. Together, you’ll gently challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and experiment with new ways of coping, bit by bit. It’s not about pretending everything’s fine, it’s about building real, workable tools to help you face life’s challenges with more steadiness and clarity.

This kind of therapy is especially helpful for issues like anxiety, depression, stress, phobias, low self-esteem, and habits like avoidance or over-control. It can also be used to support physical concerns with a psychological component – like insomnia, fatigue, or stress-related conditions.

CBT is focused on the here and now. While your history and past experiences are acknowledged, the emphasis is on how things are affecting you in the present – and what you can do to move forward. You might be invited to try simple practices between sessions to help reinforce what you’re learning, like noticing your thoughts in the moment, keeping a journal, or testing out small changes in how you respond to situations.

Emma brings a calm, encouraging presence to this process. There’s no pressure to “get it right” – just an invitation to be curious, to learn, and to build inner resources in a way that feels safe and doable. You’ll be met with empathy, not judgement, and supported at a pace that feels right for you.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in a loop, or simply wanting to feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, CBT can help you rediscover a sense of agency – and the tools to make meaningful, lasting change in your life.
